The Rhino 500 is our most affordable sawmill option. The mill consists of a more compact and slightly lighter weight design, yet many of our sawmill customers across the continent still use the Rhino 500 in their production lines; especially for cutting quantities of soft and medium timbers.
The standard Rhino 500 model can cut log lengths up to 3.2m, but this length can easily be increased by adding additional bed sections of 1.6m each. The maximum log diameter is 600mm. All petrol models are equipped with strong 14hp engines, while electric models have 7.5kw motors.
The Rhino 500 band sawmill offers sawyers an economical and durable solution to meet their milling needs. This sawmill is suitable for small to medium sized production.
Rhino Sawmills are designed for rugged use out in the field. We understand that conditions can be tough and as such we aim to reduce or eliminate the things that can go wrong. We have aimed to make our sawmills as user friendly as possible while removing breakable parts and electronics which can cause problems out in the field. Our aim is simple – to provide the toughest machine around, while being the easiest to service and the least likely to give problems. This means more production, more success and less stress for you in the long run.

Cutting
The mill is capable of cutting 600mm diameter logs up to 3.2m long. Additional log deck sections are available in 1.6m lengths. Capable of squaring cants at 500mm or skimming veneers at as thin as 1.5mm. The Rhino 500 will cut within 25mm of the deck ensuring you maximize your usable board foot output.
Power
The Rhino 500 petrol model is powered by a 14HP gas engine. It comes with a three-year commercial engine warranty for all applications. Rhino 500 Electric models are equipped with 7.5kw high quality motors.
Track System
The head of our machine rolls along rigid “L” channel which is bolted to the log deck sides and cross supported with heavy duty laser cut and precision bended cross bunks. These cross bunks supports ensure the weight of the log is dispersed over a large bearing surface to avoid marking the log with indentation. They also provide additional rigidity to the track system. The log deck itself consists of two 1.6m sections allowing for 3.2m log lengths. Additional 1.6m log decks may be attached to accommodate logs of any length.
Blades
The Rhino 500 utilizes 32/35mm x 3670mm x 22mm extra hardened blades which are available through Rhino Band Sawmills. Blade kerf is kept to a minimum at just 2mm to maximize the most amount of lumber per log.
Bearings
All Rhino sawmill models have been equipped with extra high quality, extra long lasting bearings. Thereby ensuring that you get more life out of your sawmill from the get-go. We don’t cut corners and neither should you.
The sawmill is covered with a 2 year warranty against manufacturer’s defect that excludes wearing parts (belts, blades & bearings etc.).
The Kohler petrol engines is covered by a 3 year commercial warranty which is honoured through any Kohler dealer.
Log Loading Ramp Kit
Log loading ramp kits can be purchased separately to fit their sawmill. The heavy duty steel log loading ramp kit easily mounts to the sawmill allowing users to easily roll logs weighing up to 1,500 kgs onto the sawmill bed. The kit includes two steel ramps, a manual hand crank winch and a mounting kit. Please note that this loading ramp kit are not compatible with the Rhino 950 HD sawmill.
Bed length extensions
Extra bed extension sections are available to allow the user to add additional length to the sawmill bed; thereby allowing for the cutting of longer log lengths. Section lengths are 2m on the Rhino 700 and 950, and 1.6m on the Rhino 500.
Trailers
Our Rhino sawmills can be equipped with a trailer base for easy transportation.
